You've got 30 pieces of a limited edition hoodie sitting on your cutting table. Maybe it's a capsule collection tied to a collaboration, or a sample run before you pitch to retailers, or the first real production batch for the brand you've been building in your garage every evening. Whatever the reason, you need custom labels. And every supplier you've contacted wants a minimum order of 100, 500, or even 1,000 pieces.
We hear this story every week. A maker or small brand gets to the label stage and hits a wall because most manufacturers are set up for volume production. They're not interested in a 25-piece order. They'll take it, sure, but the setup fees will cost more than the labels themselves, and the per-unit price makes the math painful.
That's exactly the problem we set out to solve when we started Quality Woven Labels over 15 years ago. We believe that a brand with 10 pieces deserves the same label quality as a brand ordering 10,000. And that's not just a tagline. It's how we've built our entire ordering and manufacturing process.
Five Pieces. That's the Minimum.
We start woven label orders at the lowest possible quantity of just 5 pieces.
That applies to most of our label types, including woven damask, satin, and printed labels. The quality is identical whether you order 5 or 5,000. We use the same looms, the same threads, the same finishing processes. The only thing that changes is the quantity.
Why does this matter? Because labels are often the last thing a small brand thinks about, and by the time they realize they need them, they don't have the budget or the timeline for a massive order. A 5-piece minimum means you can get exactly what you need without overcommitting. Order samples to check the design before a bigger run. Label a small test batch for a pop-up market. Outfit a limited edition drop that was never meant to be restocked.
Why Small Batch Matters More Than Ever
The fashion industry is shifting. Fast fashion dominated for years, but consumers are increasingly drawn to smaller brands, limited runs, and products that feel personal. Scarcity creates desire and a capsule collection of 50 hoodies generates more excitement on social media than 5,000 units sitting in a warehouse.
This shift is great news for independent designers and small labels, but it creates a practical challenge. Traditional supply chains were built for scale. When you're producing 30, 50, or 100 pieces, you need partners who can work at that scale without punishing you with inflated prices or weeks of lead time.
Small batch production isn't a compromise and your labels should support that.
Perfect for Samples and Retail Pitches
If you're preparing samples to show a buyer at a boutique or a trade show, first impressions matter enormously. A beautifully constructed garment with a generic, unbranded label tells the buyer you're not ready for production. A garment with a clean, professional custom label tells them you've thought through every detail.
We work with a lot of brands at this exact stage. They're not ordering thousands of labels because they don't need thousands of labels yet. They need 10, maybe 20, enough to label their sample collection and make the right impression. Our woven text labels are a popular choice for this because they're clean, professional, and can include your brand name, size, fiber content, and care instructions all on one label.
Once the retailer says yes and you're ready for a full production run, you already know exactly what your label looks like. You've tested it, you've seen how it sits inside the garment, and you can reorder with confidence.

Limited Edition Labels for Limited Edition Products
There's something powerful about a product that says "1 of 50" or "Limited Collection." It creates urgency, builds brand loyalty, and gives your customers a reason to buy now rather than later. Your labels should reflect that same level of intentionality.
For limited edition runs, many of our customers add special touches to their labels. Metallic threads for a premium feel. A unique colorway that won't be repeated. A numbered series label alongside their standard brand label. These details might seem small, but they're exactly the kind of thing that turns a customer into a collector.
Because our minimums are so low, you can create a completely unique label for a limited run of 25 or 50 pieces without worrying about excess inventory. When that collection sells out, the label design retires with it. Your next drop gets its own label with its own identity.
The Real Cost of Small Orders
Cost is where a lot of small brands get nervous. Yes, the per-unit cost of a 10-piece order is higher than a 1,000-piece order. That's true with any tiered pricing format. Thread has to be loaded, looms have to be set up, and those fixed costs get spread across fewer units.
But here's what makes our pricing different from the big manufacturers: we don't charge exorbitant setup fees designed to discourage small orders. We've optimized our production process specifically to handle low-quantity runs efficiently. Our setup costs are minimal because we do this every day. Small orders aren't an after thought they’re a core part of our business model.
The price per label on a 20-piece order might be a few dollars each. On a 200-piece order, it drops significantly. And at 1,000 pieces, you're at industry-standard bulk pricing. The point is, at every quantity, you're getting the same premium quality. You're never paying more for inferior work.
For most small brands, the label cost per garment is a tiny fraction of the total production cost. If you're selling a hoodie for $85, spending $2 or $3 on a label that pulls the entire product together is one of the smartest investments you can make.
How the Process Works
Ordering custom labels in small quantities is straightforward and the same process at ordering large quantities.
First, start by getting a free quote on our website. Upload your logo or artwork, tell us the size and quantity you need, and select your label type. If you're not sure which type is right, just say so. We'll recommend options based on your product and budget.
Our design team creates a digital proof for your approval. You'll see exactly what the finished label will look like, including colors, dimensions, and fold style, before anything goes into production. Changes at the proof stage are free. We'd rather get it right than rush it out.
Once you approve the proof, production begins. Standard turnaround is typically 2 to 3 weeks depending on the label type and current volume. If you're working against a deadline, our rush label service can speed things up considerably.
Your finished labels arrive ready to sew or apply. Every order goes through quality inspection before it ships. Whether it's 5 labels or 5,000, they're checked to the same standard.
Brands That Started Small (and Grew With Us)
We've watched hundreds of brands go from their first 10-piece order to recurring monthly production runs. That's one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. A customer who ordered 15 woven labels for a pop-up market two years ago now orders 2,000 every quarter for their retail line.
They never had to switch suppliers as they grew. The label they used on their very first product is the same quality as the label on their 10,000th. Their brand stayed consistent from day one, and scaling up was just a matter of increasing the quantity on their next order.
That consistency matters more than people realize. When a buyer at Nordstrom picks up your product, the label quality should be identical to the one you sold at your first craft fair. Starting with the right label partner means you never have to go through the painful process of changing suppliers, updating specs, or explaining to a manufacturer what you need because a cheaper supplier couldn't deliver.

Getting Started Is the Easy Part
If you're reading this, you probably already have a design in mind or at least a vision for what your label should look like. The next step is simple: request a free quote. Tell us what you're making, how many you need, and upload your artwork if you have it. If your logo isn't label-ready yet, our team can help make adjustments to it for production at no extra charge.
We've been doing this since 2008, and we've helped thousands of brands, from solo makers sewing in their living room to companies producing tens of thousands of units per month. Every one of them started with a first order and most of those first orders were small.
Your limited edition, your sample run, your first real production batch, they all deserve a label that matches the quality of the product. We're here to make that happen, even if you only need five of them.
